Linking sugar drinks to obesity, New York Health Commissioner has advocated taxes on drinks containing sugar. He has suggested that tax would create awareness and reduce sugar consumption, leading to lesser obesity and improved health for the city’s inhabitants. This statement has been criticized by the American Beverage association president, Ms.Susan Neely.

Researchers have shown that brown fat, found in babies is retained by some adults. This fat is good and helps the adults possessing it to stay slim. As opposed to the usual white fat, the brown fat actively burns calories. This research suggests using baby brown fat to reduce obesity in adults.

Civilian Aid

Pakistan has been sanctioned an aid of USD 7.5 billion for civilian aid by America. Apart from this there is an USD 3 billion aid for military assistance. Inspite of these generous funding being extended to Pakistan there has been an additional claim for an aid of USD 30 billion to fight al-Qaida and Taliban. But Pakistan seems to have a convincing reason for this claim. In a talk with “The Washington Times”, Hussain Haqqani has justified Pakistan’s claim by saying that the aid which they seek is much lesser than the current funding extended to banks and other US companies.

Talks For International Peace

A delegation of black members of US Congress made a trip to Cuba. They met Fidel Castro and Raul Castro. Fidel Castro, the great leader was robust and garrulous. He was keen on resuming good relation with US again. The talks went on well. There were a series of questions posed by the delegates and Fidel gave soothing answers. The talks were centric on good bilateral relations. Fidel was interested in healthy relations with US. Obama wanted to make ease the travel to Cuba. Obama wants to ease family travels to Cuba. The talks indicate that Fidel wants to see harmony in US-Cuba relations within his lifetime.

Lips sticks, skin cleansers, creams, hair gels and perfumes may hold the promise of giving the user a glowing appearance but they sure have a ‘bloody’ origin. Every day thousands of animals such as guinea pigs, dogs, mice, monkeys and rabbits are drugged, poisoned or maimed under the pretext of testing the safety of cosmetics on these poor animals. In the common eye irritancy tests corrosive chemicals are squirted into the eyes of animals forcibly held immobile, their eyelids kept open with clips. In acute toxicity tests animals are force-fed on huge quantities of creams, detergents and gels, often resulting in the animals bleeding, convulsing with diarrhea, boils and skin eruptions.

American Idol star Fantasia Barrino made news when she became a mother at 17, and them came Jamie Lynn Spears, Britney Spears’ sister and then again Sarah Palin’s daughter—all teenage moms setting new trends in motherhood. Popular American TV series Grey’s Anatomy and Gossip Girl featured some episodes with teen pregnancy story lines. The issue of teenage pregnancy is worrying concerned adults all over the world who believe the media hype about celebrity teen pregnancy is projecting the wrong kind of role models for the youth.

F22’s In Trouble

The US Air Force’s F-22 Raptor is an advanced fighter aircraft that gives a clear advantage to the armed forces in the sky. Each F-22 costs $143 million. As per the Defense Secretary, Mr.Robert Gates, this is overkill and needs to be curtailed.Mr.Gates wants to stop F-22 production, 60 jets short of what was originally intended.
