The world’s largest humanitarian operation was launched in Sri Lanka to rescue thousand of civilians trapped in the no-fire-zone. Claiming to have swept away terrorists strongholds in the area, the troops have set up rescue points after are identifying the best possible escape routes from the civilians to come out after removing the blockades. These rescue operations of the Tamils caught in the crossfire between the Sri Lankan army and the fighters of the Liberations Tigers of Tamil Ealam, an outfit demanding a separate homeland, is being done amidst growing concerns expressed by various Western nations including US, Norway and the EU.
